Home Appellation Bergeracois

Terrain – Climate:

Oceanic influence dominates (100 km from the Atlantic) with secondary continental influence; moist climate (due to the very many rivers and streams, spring and late-autumn precipitation); warm temperatures on average, but hot summers and temperate winters.

White grape varieties in the Bergerac region:

  • Muscadelle
  • Sémillon
  • Sauvignon Blanc

Factors in Bergerac wine quality:

- exposure (position on the Dordogne "terraces");

- climatology (humidity for the sanitary state of the crop and "noble rot" for sweet wines, dry sunny weather for maturation);

- yield;

- types of vinification and aging.

Wine styles:
Dry white wines (Sauvignon principally): clear yellow color, expressive nose of citrus fruits and blackcurrant buds; fresh and lively attack, very fruity and aromatic wines.
